Hidex is a family-owned high technology company which develops and manufactures high performance analysis equipment for life science research, radiation measurement and nuclear medicine. As pioneers in the field of radiation measurement, our products combine modern technology with outstanding craftsmanship.
Hidex is based in Turku, Finland, and Mainz, Germany and we are supported by a global network of distributors and trained specialists. Our goal is to help our customers unleash the full potential of their laboratory equipment and constantly innovate our products based on user feedback. Over the past thirty years, the company has broadened its product range beyond the renowned Triathler and Chameleon plate reader to include contemporary solutions. These now include sample preparation using the Hidex 600 OX Oxidizer, ultra-low analysis with Hidex ULLA, and many more innovations.
Pioneering since 1993
Hidex Oy was founded in 1993 by Jukka Haaslahti and Marja-Liisa Haaslahti. Soon after, the company was joined by accomplished engineers Juhani Aalto and Timo Oikari as Co-founders. The pioneers set out to achieve an ambitious target – the development of the world’s first portable liquid scintillation counter. The launch of the world's first portable LSC, the Hidex Triathler, resulted in the company gaining recognition in the liquid scintillation counting community. This was the first of many milestones for the company that recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The company currently employs close to 40 professionals, has active distribution in more than 30 countries and has roughly 5000 instruments in service worldwide.
Hidex Group
The Hidex group consists of Hidex Oy along with two fully owned subsidiaries: Hidex Chemicals Oy and Hidex Deutschland Vertrieb GmbH. Hidex Chemicals specializes in manufacturing chemicals, specifically liquid scintillation cocktails. Hidex Deutschland Vertrieb GmbH is a sales and service organization based in Mainz, Germany, which supports our customers in Germany and certain other countries in Central Europe.

Early years
1993
Hidex is founded by Jukka and Marja-Liisa Haaslahti. Jukka starts work consulting radiation detection technology companies and other industrial partners.
1995
Timo Oikari and Juhani Aalto join Hidex together they start they ambitious work on new technology template for liquid scintillation counting.
1996
The Triathler is released and sales start 1997. The worlds first portable liquid scintillation counter combining also gamma and luminescence counting.
1998-2005
Hidex works with R&D partner for various companies in radiation detection, life science companies developing various instruments including RT-PCR based molecular diagnostic instrument, Thermo Luminescence Dosimetry, electro chemiluminescence gaining widespread expertise in various fields.
Expansion era
2002
Hidex releases the PlateCHAMELEON multimode microplate reader with the only instrument to combine liquid scintillation counting and non radioactive detection methods fluorescence, luminescence and absorbance.
2004
Hidex collaborates with University of Turku Hospital to commercialize first on-line automated O-15 water infusion system for PET blood flow studies.
2005
PlateCHAMELON V is released with automation compatible solutions for high throughput screening.
2008
Hidex releases the revolutionary Hidex 300 SL TDCR liquid scintillation counter. The new and compact system becomes and instant hit with close to 1500 installations world wide.
Innovation decades
2011
Hidex has a significant role in the aftermath of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident and delivered hundreds of systems around Japan for food monitoring and environmental monitoring applications.
2012
Hidex releases the Hidex Sense multimode microplate reader family.
2014
Hidex AMG automatic gamma counter is released with first on board sample balance for automatic activity per mass reporting.
2015
Hidex 600 SL automatic TDCR liquid scintillation counter is released for high throughput labs with multi user environment.
Present successes
2019
Hidex ventures in to sample preparation systems for liquid scintillation counting. By developing and introducing the Hidex 600 OX automated sample oxidation system and collaborating with our partners to introduce Q-ARE 100 automated radiochemistry extraction system.
2020
During the global COVID-19 pandemic Hidex Sense microplate readers are used to study viral infections and spread of viruses around the world.
2022
Hidex acquires the products and businesses of Meridian Biotechnologies Ltd. to enter into liquid scintillation counting cocktail manufacturing with its subsidiary company, Hidex Chemicals Oy.
2023
Hidex acquires Hidex Deutschland Vertrieb GmbH to establish its own sales and service organization for central European customers. Launches the Hidex ULLA ultra low level LSC.
