Hidex’s long-standing customer, Radsol, has been a pioneer in Korea’s radioactivity measurement industry, serving customers with radiochemical analysis of environmental and nuclear decommissioning samples.
Company founder Dr. Jung-Suk Oh, whose laboratory houses three Hidex 300 SL instruments, shared how he came across Hidex, how the instruments support the laboratory’s work, and what makes him an enthusiast of Hidex liquid scintillation counting devices.
What does Radsol do?
Founded in April 2018, Radsol serves the analysis needs of various government agencies with, for example, tritium levels in seawater, method development for food and drug safety, and samples for nuclear waste characterisation.
Dr. Oh has had an extensive career in radioactivity measurements, starting with a PhD in environmental radioactivity from the University of Southampton. He worked for a well-known commercial group providing radiochemical services in the UK before continuing his career at Korea’s metrology institution, the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. Later, he founded Radsol Co. Ltd. The company currently employs 11 people, and while Dr. Oh and the team have observed market growth, the growth has been slower than initially expected. In fact, the Asian market, specifically Korea, is among Hidex’s top five markets globally.
“Hidex instruments are being used for radioactivity measurement in various industries in Korea, from nuclear power plants to environmental monitoring. While the process of introducing a new or different instrument manufacturer to users can be slow, the change has already started happening, and I am happy to be one of the key opinion leaders in Korea.”
How did you learn about Hidex?
Having worked with several radioanalytical solutions, Dr. Oh valued the importance of receiving swift customer support. After learning about Hidex, Dr. Oh got in touch with Hidex’s local Korean partner, B&B Co. Ltd., who are responsible for instrument maintenance and providing customer support to local customers. According to Dr. Oh, he was impressed with B&B’s customer support and received adequate assistance from the team. He also had the chance to familiarise himself with a demo unit, which helped him get acquainted with the device and its unique TDCR technology.
