2.3 - Sample combustion with Hidex 600 OX Oxidizer

The Hidex 600 OX Oxidizer is ideal sample combustion instrument for variety of samples including but not limited to, tissue, plant, soil, sediment, and concrete. The instrument utilizes preheated high temperature (900 °C) furnace, controlled oxygen flow and catalyst for complete sample oxidation producing CO2 and H2O. The samples are loaded in the combustion tube by a PLC (programmable logic controller) controlled automation and six samples can be combusted automatically in one run. The oxidation products, CO2 and H2O, are collected either to 600 OX Radiocarbon or 600 OX Tritium cocktail, respectively. The 14C is collected as 14CO2 and 3H as 3H2O.

Three different sample Oxidizer models are available: 1) Basic model instrument for 14C samples only, 2) Standard model is for either 14C or 3H samples and requires cocktail bottle change when switching between the radionuclides, and 3) DualLabel model extracts both 14C and 3H from one sample into two different LSC vials. The sample oxidation protocol for 600 OX Oxidizer is similar for all sample types. Typically, only the combustion time is varied depending on the sample type and amount.
